Infia UK Delivers New Packaging Range For Soft Fruits - Protect, Preserve & Present Produce Better

Infia UK, a leading packaging supplier to the industry, has announced an extended range of tailored packaging for the soft fruit industry. New for the 2007 / 2008 soft fruit season, Infia has extended their punnet and lid range with several new designs. The K 10, K 30 and K 62 punnet and lid formats provide a flexible range of configurations and sizes suitable for 125g to 750g of most soft fruit varieties. All Infia punnet and lid combinations are available in PP, PET or recycled “R” PET material. |

The KappaPlus collection of punnets and trays has a unique ‘transpiration’ hole embedded in the edge of the packaging to increase airflow and ventilation. Designed for ease of handling by retail staff, the range provides easy to apply, securely fitting lids that feature a new rib design for increased pack strength and improved protection during transit. The product’s stacking properties also optimise transportation and minimises storage costs.
Ian Seamark, sales director at Infia UK, part of the GSH Group said, “packaging has to strike a delicate balance between protecting the fruit from external contamination whilst allowing the product to breath. By incorporating a ventilation system into the packaging you can keep the fruit fresher for longer and limit the amount which ends up as waste. The ventilation system can also be successfully tailor made for the needs of the fruit, with one example being our new side-ventilated punnet, which is ideal for grapes.”
A well-presented product that is differentiated by good quality packaging can make a difference to the consumer’s decision and if the packaging does not reflect the higher quality of the product within, the customer is likely to choose on price and opt for the cheapest.

Easiweigh Announces New Compact High Speed, Twin Lane Counter Weigher

Easiweigh, part of the GSH Group, is launching its new Twin Lane Counter at the TOTAL Show 2007. The latest addition to the Easiweigh range is a compact high-speed, twin lane optical counting system, with the versatility to be used as either an optical counting machine or a weighing system. The new system offers an ideal, cost effective solution for small packaging companies or start up companies with smaller packing requirements. It also provides the flexibility often required by such packers, of being a dual purpose machine. In response to customer requirements the twin lane counter provides customers with the option of using the machine as either a weigher or a counter, providing operational flexibility and eliminating the need to invest in two separate machines. |

Perfect for counting or weighing a wide range of fresh or frozen produce, the Easiweigh Twin Lane Counter Weigher is reliable and robust with a high quality stainless steel construction. With operating speeds of up to 30 packs per minute, the system will increase operational efficiency and reduce packaging costs. The system benefits from an optical eye system for highly accurate counting, whilst the software option provides the transition from counting facility to weighing facility, both capable of handling a range of product shapes and sizes.

The Easiweigh DRP10-10 10-channel, high speed linear weighing machine, delivers fast and accurate weighing, is flexible and easy to operate, the system is capable of running at speeds of 70 deposits per minute, is computer controlled for simple operation, has a fast product changeover capability and benefits from a small machine footprint. The DRP10-10 handles a range of produce shapes and sizes, and is particularly suitable for the fresh goods and ready meals market – where the low drop height virtually eliminates product damage to maintain the exacting standards in product quality required by the food industry.
Showcasing at Total 2007 is the innovative Metal Detector Checkweigher, a new system that provides accurate weight control whilst ensuring that the product is free from any metal particles/goods, in one integrated operation. With a lower plant investment the Metal Detector Checkweigher delivers safety and accuracy, eliminating the requirement for two separate processes and significantly saving on floor space.
The Midi Starter Pack entry-level weighing system for small, start-ups and low volume producers, features the MidiLite stainless steel, compact weigher, a parallel integrated filling station and sealing machine, delivering a complete packing solution. The Midilite Plus delivers an attractive price / performance solution for packing environments that are currently running manual or small-scale processes, but need to expand and automate.
The Verti-Pack PAL-108S provides automated palletising solutions to reduce labour requirements for end of line solutions. The PAL-108S is a versatile and flexible machine for palletising of cardboard boxes and is ideal for returnable plastic supermarket crates of all sizes. It also benefits from a capacity of approximately 660 crates/boxes per hour.
The Verti-pack W12-126 is an automatic weighing machine suitable for a range of fresh fruits, using electronically operated vibrating plates and channels for more accurate measurements and capable of working two different packaging formats with two different weights at the same time.
Other highlights on the Easiweigh/GSH stand will include the latest Easiweigh multi-lane weighing machines including;

Integrating the high performance characteristics and accuracy of the Easiweigh Checkweigher and the reliability of the Easiweigh Metal Detector, the new unit provides customers with a complete solution, delivering efficiency and improved productivity.
The checkweigher capability ensures that products exactly match the specified weights required on the production line, for guaranteed accuracy and to prevent discrepancies. It operates linear speeds of up to 100m/1’ and can achieve -/+ 0.3g accuracy levels.
The Easiweigh Metal Detector Checkweigher has been designed with complete flexibility in mind, with the capability of handling products of obscure shapes and sizes and suitable for a variety of environments such as high humidity environments including the fresh and frozen food sector. Additional features include the ability to operate at particularly high or low speeds all controllable from the keyboard, a self-calibration device and removable conveyors.
The new Easiweigh system benefits from a graphical display panel for ease of operation where data can be managed, printed and speeds can be adjusted. The software can store up to 100 product programmes for simple recovery when required.
Constructed using the highest quality materials and entirely of stainless steel, the robust design allows for low maintenance and removable conveyors aid easy cleaning. The DRP10-10 features a 10-channel configuration that can manage a range of shapes and sizes, and is suitable for a wide range of products - particularly in the fresh produce and ready meals market - where the low drop height virtually eliminates product damage to maintain the exacting standards in product quality required by the food industry. Food producers and manufacturers are able to fully automate their weighing processes, eliminate hand filling and reduce labour costs. With the flexibility to run a wide range of different products on the same machine, the new weigher delivers increased speed and accuracy and significantly improves end-product quality.
With over 20 years experience in linear weighing, Neil Andrews, group managing director at Easiweigh, said, “Many of our customers required a larger, faster system that tackled the problem of product damage, as seen with other types of equipment in the market. The DRP10-10 has been designed to give fast and accurate weighing, but with a minimised machine footprint, enabling users to fit the system into a small factory floorspace. Flexible and easy to operate, the system is capable of running at speeds of 70 per minute and is computer-controlled for easy, simple operation and fast product changeover from one product or weight to another. Advanced features include automatic tare zeroing, and self-correction weight checks to ensure no underweight. Also announced at this year’s PPMA, is the new Easiweigh DRP 1010 High Speed Linear Weigher. This system has been designed to give fast and accurate weighing, but keeping the machine size to a minimum, thus enabling users to fit the system into small area. The system will be capable of running at speeds of 70 per minute with fast change overs and the flexibility to run a wide range of different products on the same machine.

The Midilite is a high quality, full functionality, entry level automatic weighing system, affordable for all start-up operations. The Midilite is compact in design, only 120cm long x 30cm wide x 100cm high, and can be fully automatic or operated manually, for complete flexibility. Requiring low investment and very economical to operate, the Midilite provides an efficient weighing system which can be relied upon to weigh products accurately with no over or under counting. |

As well as its compact size and small footprint, the Midilite is virtually maintenance free, so very little attention is required for optimum performance, although the parts are easily removable for cleaning when required.
Constructed from robust stainless steel and high quality components the linear weighing system can handle a wide range of products accurately with average or minimum weight settings and a maximum product weight of 2 kg. A capacity of up to 3 litres is available as standard, however other capacities are available.
The Midilite has vibratory feeders and outlet chutes with additional sizes and extensions available to handle obscure or larger products. It also benefits from a secondary feed tray with an integral fine feed shelf, which can be increased by the provision of a third feeder when required.
It has a weighpan with pneumatically operated lids and a proximity detector that ensures full advantage is taken of the capability of the control system to provide fast, accurate weighing.
All machines are supplied with a suitable product hopper together with a footswitch for manual operation or a weight complete relay for automatic operation. A number of additional options are available to supplement the standard Midilite system including:
- Floor mounting stands, or mounting sub frames to suit ancillary equipment all in stainless steel
- Electronic synchronisation units for multiple installations and fully automatic operation with ancillary equipment
- Hopper product level detectors, to control product in-feed systems
- Data link to central computer systems
